He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Ashley Messick Sr. and Anna Marie Messick. He is survived by: his family Chester; his wife Kathy F. Messick; his daughters, Katherine C. Akinc (Mert), Ashley E. Hooker (Daniel) and Lauren O. Messick; his sister Candy M. Drummond (Murray, Jr.); and his grandchildren, Evan, William, Charlie and Anne.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
