He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Felicita Rivera and Thomas Rivera; his son Adam Isaac Rivera; his grandchildren, Jayden Rivera and Aliana Rivera; his wife Mary Cuquita Rivera of Navarre, Florida; and his sons, Nelson Rivera Jr. of Connecticut, Thomas Pedro Rivera of Navarre and Nicholas Pepin Rivera of Milton, Florida. He was also cherished by fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made, in Nelson's name to the Alzheimer's foundation.
