He was predeceased by: his parents, James Russell "Russ" Gates Sr. and Shirley Louise McFalls (Toler); his stepfather Thomas John "TJ" McFalls; his sister Theresa Jane Pedigo; and his son James "Micah" Gates.
He is survived by: his daughter Elizabeth "Amber" Holobaugh (Zachary) of Florala, AL; his brother James Russell "Rusty" Gates II (Sherry) of Woodville, TX; his brother-in-law Barry Pedigo of Pensacola, FL; and his stepmother Elizabeth "Liz" Gates. He is also survived by other nephews, cousins, relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (5696 Berryhill Rd, Milton, FL 32570).
