Vergie (House) Collins Obituary

Vergie House Collins, age 89, died on Thursday, March 24, 2022. She was born on
November 7, 1932 one of twelve children born to Jesse and Sular (Varner) House.
Vergie grew up on a farm near Evergreen, Alabama, and attended Lyeffion School.

After High School, Vergie moved to Pensacola to work at Chemstand where she metBenjamin Franklin Collins.
They were married on December 11, 1954. They have 3 sons, Michael (Pam) Collins, Tim (Stephanie) Collins,
and Steve (Joyce) Collins. Ben and Vergie have 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey Collins, Benjamin (Aimee) Collins,
Matthew (Sarah) Collins, Kristy (Waylon) McGowin, Katie (Reuben) Byrd, T.J. (Anne-Marie) Collins, Jennifer (Keith) Hines ,
and Kim (Chad) Purvis. Benjamin and Vergie have 17 great-grandchildren that they loved deeply.

While her sons were young, Vergie was a full-time homemaker. She was a great cook, cake decorator,
and gardener extraordinaire. She spent many hours taking her sons to church activities, music lessons, ball practices
and games, Scout meetings, and High School Marching Band activities. She was also very active in the lives and
activities of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Guests would often stop at her home to get a cup of coffee and enjoy a homemade dessert. It was a common
occurrence for guests to enjoy a meal and fellowship at her kitchen table.

When her sons were young teenagers Vergie went to work for the United States Post Office as a substitute Rural Mail Carrier.
Her part-time job became a full-time job and she worked as a Rural Mail carrier for the United States Post Office until she retired.

Ben and Vergie are committed Christians. When they moved from Pensacola to Milton in 1960 they became founding members of
Olivet Baptist Church. They reared their 3 sons to be followers of Christ.

On Thursday, March 31, 2022 there will be a visitation from 1:30 - 2:30 pm for friends and family at
Friendship Baptist Church located at 5300 Berryhill Road in Milton, Florida The funeral will be at
2:30 pm followed by the interment at Serenity Gardens, 6208 Stewart Street in Milton, Florida.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lewis Funeral Home in Milton, Florida.
