Dewitt Gene Wilbanks Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Dewitt Gene Wilbanks of Mims, Florida, who passed away on June 12, 2025 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewitt Wilbanks and Louis Wilbanks; his former wife Reva Jean Wilbanks; his brother Wayne Wilbanks; and his wife Margaret Ann Wilbanks.
He is survived by: his son Randy Wilbanks; his stepchildren, Mark Fitz, Matthew Fitz, Julia Stone and Deborah Welch; and his brothers, Lamar Wilbanks and Dennis Wilbanks. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the North Brevard Funeral Home (1450 Norwood Ave, Titusville, FL 32796). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 17th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Aurantia in Mims (2395 Kentucky Ave, Mims, FL 32754).
Gene worked at Kennedy Space Center during the pioneering Apollo and Gemini programs, and his name is honored on a plaque left on the Moon by the astronauts—an enduring testament to his contribution to history.
