He was predeceased by: his son Allen Jernigan; his parents, Marion Jernigan and Irene Jernigan; his sons, Allan and Steven Jernigan (Tamara Jernigan); and his siblings, Maxwell Jernigan, Wilbur Jernigan, David Jernigan, Annette Katechis and Venora Deavers.

He is survived by: his wife Muriel Jernigan; his children, Douglas Jernigan (Barbara Jernigan) and Janis Fielder (Stephen Fielder); and his siblings, Elizabeth Crane and Estora Pugh.
