He was predeceased by: his wife Eloise Stillman Kaplan; his parents, Gertrude Kaplan and Nathan Kaplan; his grandson Alex; and his former wife Sheila Kaplan.
He is survived by: his children, Jane Kirshbaum (David), Cindy Kaplan (Marc Weisskopf), Peter Kaplan (Jessica), Jed Stillman (Debbie) and Scott Stillman; his grandchildren, Abby (Jeremiah), Zoe, Noah (Stephanie), Mira, Micah, Daryn, Asher, Sophie (Josh), Sam, Grace, Max (Meghna) and Ezra; his brother Howard Kaplan (Diane); his siblings-in-law, Bill Schmitzer and Pennie Shapiro; his nephews, Josh Kaplan (Jenny Roosa), Seth Kaplan (Rory), David Kaplan (Marci) and Dan Shapiro (Nikki); and his niece Beth Shapiro (Scott Boscapomi).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Israel of Minneapolis or University of Minnesota Hillel.
