He was predeceased by: his parents, James F. Flanagan, and Ebba Flanagan, Sr. (Anderson); and his wife Nola P. Flanagan. He is survived by: his children, Linda Sheme (Steven) of Fort Myers, FL, Lonna Keating (Robert) of Waretown, NJ, James Flanagan III (Karen) of Matthews, NC, Wendy Chapman (John) of Fort Myers, FL and Ward Flanagan (Jeanette) of Fort Myers, FL; and his sister Nancy King of Bonita Springs, FL. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
