We announce the death of Merle J. Nevenhoven of Naples, Florida, who passed away on July 6, 2026, at the age of 94. Merle will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacobus Nevenhoven and Sara Nevenhoven (Janssen); his siblings, Donna and Ron; his niece Tamra Manning; and his father-in-law Ralph Hunter.
He is survived by: his son Garrett Hunter Nevenhoven of Huntersville; his wife Cheryl Hunter; his sister Pat Kole of Aplington, Iowa; his mother-in-law Marion Hunter of Ocala, Florida; his siblings-in-law, Carol Carlton, Michael Carlton of Ocala, Florida, David Hunter and Katie Sterling of Bridgeport; and his nieces and nephews, Mariah Hunter of Farmington, David Hunter, Jr. of Wanamingo, Minnesota, Melissa Kole-Gummert of Grundy Center, Iowa and Alan Kole of Ames, Iowa..
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Naples Botanical Garden, 4820 Bayshore Drive, Naples, FL 34112, where he will be honored at a future date.
