He was predeceased by: his parents, Isabella White Matz and William McDowell Matz, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Linda Heal Matz; his children, William Matz III (Helen Matz), Heather Matz Jorris (Peter Jorris) and Rebecca Matz Wall (Peter Cashion); his grandsons, William, Benjamin (Alyssa), Joshua, Max, Luke, Alexander and Ian; and his sister Rebecca Pearce.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Post Chapel. He guided the agency through the challenges of a global pandemic while preserving its sacred mission of honoring America's fallen.
