It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Joseph McKernan (New Smyrna Beach, Florida), born in Omaha, Nebraska, who passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He is survived by: his wife Llewellyn McKernan; his daughter Katie Borgman; his son-in-law Mike Borgman; his grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle and Alyssa Borgman; his siblings, James, Dan, David, Peter and Margo Schmeising; and his sister-in-law Elizabeth McKernan. He is also survived by many nieces, and nephews.

He was one of three finalists for the 200l Professor of the Year Award by the Faculty Merritt Foundation, and one year won the faculty's Distinguished Artist and Scholar Award.
