She was predeceased by: her parent Theola Leitner; her son Benjamin Franklin Maxey, Jr.; and her siblings, Constance Summers, Gloria Johnson, Johnny Kelly, Oscar Davis and Oscar Johnson.
She is survived by: her birth mother Maggie Kelly; her children, Lavern Maxey, Beverly Maxey Wondenga (Ibrahim), Christopher Maxey (Arika), Sherryl Johnson Tandy (Erik) and Rita Johnson Early (Bruce); her close friend Devetta Maynard; and her son Melvin Mosley. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
