She was predeceased by: her parents, Mortimer Smith and Dione Smith; and her children, Horace and Marcia. She is survived by: her caregivers, Janny, Osany and Marite; her husband Lloyd Hines; her brothers, Owen and Harry; and her children, Neressa, Junior, Michelle, Deonne, Wendy, Yolanda, Brad and Chrystal.

En 2019, a Joy le diagnosticaron Alzheimer, que progresó hasta convertirse en demencia grave.
