He was predeceased by : his parents, Alexander Ruffin Stirling and Beulah Simmons Stirling; his wife Claudia Marie Stirling; and his sister Geraldine B. Stevens. He is survived by : his sons, Richard Nelson Stirling and Michael Wayne Stirling; his grandchildren, Addison Patrick Stirling and Leighton Nessa Stirling; his sister Diane Patricia Stirling; and his nieces, Michelle Kinney, Stacy Lindabury and Savannah White.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society.
