He was predeceased by: his parents, William McCoy Smith and Grethe Smith. He is survived by: his sister Susan Barksdale; his brother-in-law Jimmy Barksdale; and his nieces, Elizabeth Payton, Kimberly Wahl (Alex Wahl) and Rachel Barksdale. He is also survived by four great nieces and 2 great nephews.
