He was predeceased by: his parents, Asa Carter and Blanche Carter (Ivester); his son Ronald T. Carter; and his grandson Hayden Clark. He is survived by: his wife Betty Carter; his daughters, Denise Clark, Michele Carter and Dawn Scott; his sister Patricia Dobbs; his grandchildren, Brandon Besherse, Lauren Clark, Tyler Besherse and Ty Scott; and his great grandchildren, Nicholas Stoner, Jr., Jasper Stoner and Brooks Besherse. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
