He was predeceased by: his wife Mona Gerard; his parents, Frank Gerard and Cora Collins; and his siblings, Larry Gerard, Butch Gerard (Gwen) and Rosemary Germano.
He is survived by: his children, Joe Gerard Jr., John Gerard (Vickie), Jim Gerard, Jerry Gerard, Kim Frye (Steve) and Susie Gerard. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
