He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Bowen, Sr. and Beulah Mae Bryant Bowen; his wife Kathleen Bowen; his grandson Tyson L. Varner; and his siblings, Samuel Bowen, Margie Freeman, Hazel Johnson and Cleta Mosley.

He is survived by: his children, Catrina M. Crayton and Thomas E. Bowen; his grandchildren, Janell M. Bosserman (LeAnthony), Jackson T. Bowen and Joshua Bryant; his great grandchildren, Penelope N. Bosserman, Preston L. Bosserman and Cecilia Bailey; his nephew Randall Lasenburg (Michelle); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Caroline and Claire; his sisters-in-law, Faye Eaton, Tina Headacker and Denise Howard; and his siblings, Marella Gilchrist, Audrey Graham, Joyce McMichael, Verlene Dewitt, Doreen Hilton, Sue Bowen, Blannie Bowen, Melvin Bowen and Kelvin Bowen. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.
