He was predeceased by: his sister Jane O'Connor; his daughter Sheila Hale; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Helsel and Angel Hale. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn O'Connor; his children, Larry Helsel (Gina), Ronald Keith Helsel, Doug Helsel (Judy) and Michelle Shepard; and his sister Sharon Malone. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren.
