He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Sweeney and Marion F. Sweeney (Conlin). He is survived by: his wife Nancy B. MacLachlan Sweeney; his son John D. Sweeney of Wallingford, CT.; his grandchildren, Collin P. Nodden, Alayna, Julia, Hannah and Jameson Sweeney; his brother-in-law William (Debbie MacLachlan) of East Orleans, MA; his former wife Charlotte Sweeney of Wallingford, CT; and his friend Lucy Hallowell of Enfield, CT.
