It is heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Vernon Calonder on December 26, 2023. Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his departure leaves an indescribable void in our lives. We gather here today to honor the incredible life he lived and to cherish the memories we shared with him.

Richard was born on October 30th 1946, in a small town where he learned the value of hard work, compassion, and the importance of family. Throughout his life, he embodied these qualities, touching the lives of everyone he encountered. Richard's warm smile, kind heart, and gentle nature created an atmosphere of love and comfort wherever he went.

A dedicated husband, Richard shared a remarkable bond with his loving wife of 45 years, Emily. Their unwavering commitment to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they created a beautiful family and built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

As a father, Richard exemplified patience, guidance, and unwavering support. His children, Janette & Timothy were his pride and joy. He encouraged them to pursue their dreams and instilled in them the values he held dear. Richard's unconditional love and wisdom will forever be treasured by his children and their families.

Richard was also a doting grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Aja, Jessica & Bryce. He deeply cherished the precious moments spent with them, imparting his wisdom and creating lasting memories. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable, and they will forever hold a special place in their hearts for their adoring "Papa."

Professionally, Richard was a proudly retired Chief Petty Officer who served in the Navy for over 20yr , known for his integrity and dedication. He built a successful career through hard work and determination, yet always remained humble and grounded. Richard's colleagues admired his leadership skills and respected his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was a pillar of his community. He generously shared his time and resources, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those less fortunate. His compassionate nature and willingness to help others will forever be remembered.

In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He found solace in nature, often spending time at the park with his wife and dogs, and finding peace amidst the beauty of the natural world. Richard also had a passion for travel, exploring new destinations and immersing himself in different cultures.

Richard Vernon Calonder will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire us all. As we bid farewell to our dear friend and cherished family member, let us remember him for the incredible person he was and carry his spirit with us always.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Friday February, 9th at 9AM at the South Florida National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Richard's soul is now at eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing to all his family members.
