Eugene Alfonso Popp, 88 of Stuart Florida died June 4, 2019. “Gene” Popp, son of Rose O. Ruggiero
and Eugene M. Popp and loving husband of Mary Elaine Purcell Popp, was born on August 8, 1930
in Paterson NJ. He passed away at Tequesta Terrace in Tequesta Florida after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Mary of 60 years and his son Kevin M. Popp (Cheryl Popp) and daughter Dianne G. Popp-Malki (Suheil Malki). He is also survived by his brother Gerald Popp and sister – in- law Louise Popp and 5 grandchildren Cory, Danielle and Alexandra Malki of Palm Beach Gardens and Kristen and Colleen Popp and great grandson Bryson of East Stroudsburg, Pa. Gene attended Public School 21 in Paterson, NJ then Montclair Academy in Montclair NJ. He went to Babson Institute in Eureka, Kansas and Boston Mass. and graduated with a BS degree from Farleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford NJ. Corporal Eugene Popp served the Army in the Korean War as a member of the Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG) which helped to train and provide logistic support for the Republic of Korea Army and
worked as a highspeed radio operator until 1953. When he left the army he was an accountant for
Watson Machine Company, Union Camp Corp., Pandullo Quirk Associates, and the Diocese of Paterson. He was an accomplished classical pianist, outstanding golfer and past member of Packanack Golf Club
In N.J., Lord’s Valley Country Club in PA. and the Ocean Club Golf Course in Stuart, Fl. Gene’s motto was “think positive “and he always had a smile on his face.
In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made to Mary’s Shelter of Stuart Florida.
Funeral Arrangements are to be held at at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
1200 SE 10 th St., Stuart, Fl 34996 on Saturday October 12, 2019 at 10:00 AM. and burial service
to be held at South Florida National Cemetery 6501 FL-7, Lake Worth, Fl 33449 on Monday,
October 14, 2019at 9:30 AM – please park in Lane
