She was predeceased by: her parents, Augustus Watts Gainer and Annie Victoria Porter Gainer; her husband Joel A. Nelson; her son LtCol James "Dennis" Nelson; and her siblings, Orene Shelby, Autrey Hazzard, Floyd Gainer and Wendall Gainer.
She is survived by: her son Joel F. Nelson; her sisters, Iris Gainer Reeder and Merle; her daughter-in-law Jean Casey Nelson (Dennis) of Gulf Breeze, FL; her grandchildren, Amber Green (Charles), LtCol Casey Nelson and Rachel Nelson; her stepgrandchildren, Andrew Stevens and Amy Stevens; and her great grandchildren, Addison Green, George Nelson, Yuuki Nelson and Nina Nelson. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and other extended family.
She was often picked up at her home at Mathison Retirement and Assisted Living Facility by her dear friend, Allie Mae Brannon to attend church services at Immanuel until Hurricane Michael and then the COVID pandemic caused her to stay homebound.
