He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Elisha and Modell Elizabeth Williams (Griffin); his sister Geraldine Williams Watson; his brother-in-law Bubba Prothro; the mother of his children Annette Shoupe Williams; and his great-niece Maggie Thurman.

He is survived by: his siblings, Judy Prothro of Panama City and Billy Williams (Faith) of Summerville, SC; his daughters, Carrie Gurganus (Johnny) of Panama City and Stacey Christiansen (Chad) of Surprise, AZ; his grandchildren, Johnny Gurganus Jr., Abbie Gurganus, Carley Christiansen and Hailey Christiansen; and his nieces and nephews, Joseph Williams, Joel Williams (Cynthia), Johnny Butterworth, Gene Butterworth (Christy), Deborah Wolf, Barbara Galvez (Carlos), Scarlet Barnhill (Tommy), Chris Butler, Tammy Hall (Jon) and Tracy Martin (Joel). He is also survived by loving great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives.
