He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert S. University (Constance Nowlin) and Livingston University; his brothers, Dick and James (Pancho); and his nephew Robert.

He is survived by: his wife Marcia; his children, Jeri (James) and Jeffrey (Carol); his grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Maggie and Carter Shaffer; his siblings, Robert (Linda), Bobbie Jean Marcus, Connie Burchum (Mike) and Ruth Aubrey (Roger); and his sister-in-law Kathy Nowlin. He is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Wilde Lake Church Food Pantry.
