He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Hedenschou Jacobson of Norway and Gustave Amandus Jacobson of Sweden; his former wife Kyoko Iwata; and his brothers, Gustave and Robert.

He is survived by: his wife Vera; his son Thomas T. (Andrea); his grandchildren, Jennifer Meagan and Max Austin of Cary; and his daughter Olivia R. Jacobson of Long Beach, California..
