He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Carlson and Pricella Carlson; his brothers, Smith Oliver "Butch" Carlson, Jr. and James "Jimmy" Carlson; and his daughter Denise Faye Carlson.

He is survived by: his wife Heather Lynn Carlson; his siblings, Dean Carlson and Anna Cary; his children, Raymond John Carlson, Jr. (Suzanne) and Pamela Aldaphe; and his stepson Aaron Rutherford. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
