He was predeceased by: his parents, William French May and Lucy Rebecca Bennett May; and his siblings, Albert, Herbert, Joseph May, Edna Palmer, Bertha Palmer, Myrtle Palmer, Helen Palmer Powell and Betty Lou Sheets.
He is survived by: his wife Eleanor Mae Kemp May; his children, Debra Garner (Fred) of Rayland, William Richard May of Pensacola, Nancy Jane Ludtman (John) of Nederland, Theresa Elaine Morris (Roger) of Follansbee, Susan Elaine Harvey of Jacksonville and Lori Michelle Wilson (Shannon) of Daphne, Alabama; and his siblings, Ethel Bier of Clarington, Ohio and Arthur "Huck" May of Powhatan Point, Ohio. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
