With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Joan Thornton in Port Charlotte, Florida, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 18, 2026 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Laverne Borton and Evelyn Borton. She is survived by: her son Mullis Glen Jr.; her siblings, Waunita O'Day and Bob Borton; her mother-in-law Emma Thornton; her siblings-in-law, Dorothy Scrannage (Thornton), Nellie Tucker (Thornton), Frank, Thomas, Jr. and Richard Thornton; her children, Kimberly Gore, Mark (Debby) and Kelly Dykes (Dennis); her grandchildren, Jeannette Fee, Jennifer Callahan (Bob), Jason Gore (Brittani), Danielle Wagoner (Teddy), William Thornton, Austin Dykes (Valerie) and Myah Gundersen; her great grandchildren, Allesha Quillen, Natasha Ruddy, Matthew Skaggs, Brennen Fee, Kimberlee Fee, Teddy Wagoner, William Wagoner, Linkin Gore and Isla Gore; her great great grandchildren, Claire Quillen and Brooklyn Fee; her brother Richard Borton (Beverly) of Arlington; and her sisters-in-law, Pat Borton of Grass Lake and Joyce Thornton of Naples. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 23rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Naples Memorial Gardens (525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 23rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors was held on Friday, January 23rd 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
