He was predeceased by: his parents, Malcolm Friend and Minnie Friend; and his grandson Ryan Friend. He is survived by: his wife Arlene Friend; his sons, Leland Friend (Freddie) and Joe Friend; and his grandchildren, Amanda Reed, Megan Godwin (Jon), Eric Friend, Kiersten Reed (Andrew), Zemiyah Hendricks, Addison Reed, Dion Williams, Joniyah Godwin, Major Godwin and Brenten Reed.
