He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Burrage and Lillian Burrage (Clarke); his granddaughter Prudence (Victoria); and his stepdaughter Susan Speranza. He is survived by: his wife Lorraine; his siblings, Peter (Val), David (Ute), Christine and Diane; his sons, Anthony and Garrie (Julie); his grandsons, Frederick, Charles and John; and his stepson John Speranza.

In 2019 John received the Peggy Walters award for his efforts and noteworthy contributions to the Mobility of Charlotte County Citizens.
