He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Hayes and Geneva Hayes (Hagan); and his daughter Nancy McVicar. He is survived by: his wife Virginia E. Hayes; his children, Lori Rowe (Jay VanHulle) of Fraser, Mary Beth Penney (Michael) of Clarkston and Stephen Hayes (Danielle) of Evans, Georgia.; his grandchildren, Lauren Rushing (Terrance), Shea Penney, Alyssa Hayes, Kendal Petzold (Jacob), Dylan Comeaux, Taylor Lantigua (Miguel), Brooke Comeaux, Garrett Hayes (Savanna) and Morgan McVicar; and his great grandchildren, Lilliana Rowe, Luka Lantigua and Baby Rushing. He is also survived by many extended family members and special friends.
The lying in state was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the St Malachy Catholic Church (14115 E 14 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48312). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or the Knights of Columbus.
