We announce the death of James Lamar Mathis of Quincy, Florida, who passed away on August 26, 2026, at the age of 88. He was predeceased by: his parents, J. D. Mathis and Estelle Rowland Mathis; his siblings, Carlton Mathis, Eugene Mathis and Linda Mathis Gillis; and his stepmother Aretha Mathis.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Pearson Mathis; his children, Melanie Brown (Butch) of La Grange, Kim Wolfe (Joe) of Atlanta and James of Ocala; his granddaughters, Madison Hall (Austin) of Bainbridge, Savannah Mathis of Courtland Il and Sierra Mathis of Ocala; his great grandchild Bennet Hall of Bainbridge; and his siblings, Barbara Mathis Warren of Nashville and Darrell Mathis of Nashville.
Visitation was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (210 W Washington St, Quincy, FL 32351). A funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers Lamar asked for donations be made to the Humane Society.
