He was predeceased by: his wife Judith Law. He is survived by: his children, Aaron Wade Hunter, Erik Hunter, Alicia Harper and Melissa Hunter; and his siblings, Sally Hunter Cavanaugh and Steve Hunter. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In his younger years, he surfed professionally and helped sponsor local contests, including those supporting the Kidney Foundation, helping give back to the community that shaped him.
