He was predeceased by: his parents, Moses Burkholder and MaryAnn Burkholder; his wife Sarah C. Gingerich Burkholder; and his sons-in-law, Ivan and Larry.

He is survived by: his children, Martha, Marie (Dave), Eddie (Rose), Chris (Cindy), Eli Jr. (Linda), Joe (Deborah), Rhoda, Katie, Lillie, Lovina (Phil), Malinda (Johnny) and Chester (Brittany). He is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
