It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Phillip Coate Sr. (Sarasota, Florida), born in Marion, Indiana, who passed away on November 28, 2023, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Mabel Ruth Coate and William Marion Coate; his brother Robert Williams; his son John Coate, Jr.; and his grandson Blake Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Coate; his children, Mike Jones (Sue), Vickie Griffis (Randy), Tom Jones (Daphne), Frank Coate (Heather) and Airetta Fox (Randy); and his siblings, William Coate (Mary), Virginia Stucky (Ed) and Paul Coate (Dana). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention https://afsp.org.
