He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Rooney and Nancy Remak Rooney; his wife Shirley Schulenburg Rooney; his close friend Dorothea Thomason (Dottie); and his siblings, Thomas Rooney and Patricia Warren.
He is survived by: his children, Francis Rooney III (Robin Rooney), James (Noreen Rooney), Gary (Susanne Rooney) and Sharon Rooney of Milford, CT; his grandchildren, Timothy Rooney of West Hartford, Jeffery, Lauren Rooney of Newington, Dylan Rooney (Nikki) of Black Rock, Colin (Olivia) of Manchester, Shannon (David) of Stratford, Michael Buzan of Bridgeport and Melissa Buzan of Milford; his great grandchild Aayla of Newington; his sister Joan Riccitelli; his in-laws, Juliana Lavitola, Frederick Schulenburg, Karen and Bud Allen; and his caregivers, Debbie, Joanie, Arlene, Janessa and Glenda. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
