He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde M. Smith and Lois Elizabeth Johnson; his wife Ruth Comstock Smith; and his brothers, Ronnie, Danny and Dale Arthur Smith.

He is survived by: his brothers, Clyde "Babe" Smith (Ann), Walter M. "Butch" Smith (Judy) and Larry J. Smith (Rosie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
