He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Perkins and Lona Bell Thompson (Thornton) of Wrigley, TN; his brothers, William, Hiram, Oliver and Earl; his daughter Denise Cowart; and his grandson Nigel Duke.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Binkley Thompson; his daughters, Sherry Thompson (Terry Murray) of Brentwood, TN, Latresa Duke (Fred) of Franklin, TN and Judy Bobbitt (David) of Hendersonville, TN; his grandchildren, Braydon Duke, Seth Murray Los Angeles (Iranzu Morras), Leslie Tucker (Daniel) and Jason Cowart (Kelsey) of Smyrna, TN; his great grandchild Aeris Tucker; Jodie Stewart and Janie Edwards.
