Rosalie Jean (McLaughlin) Chalhoub Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Rosalie Jean Chalhoub (Seminole, Florida), born in Niles, Michigan, who passed away on May 11, 2020, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends can light a candle as a loving gesture for their loved one. Leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of Rosalie Chalhoub to show support.
She was born March 15, 1935, in Niles, MI to Raymond W. and Audra E. (Everhart) McLaughlin. Jean graduated from Niles HS in 1953 and attended the South Bend School of Business. She worked for the Bendix Corporation in South Bend, IN until marrying Joseph T. Chalhoub on July 6, 1957.
Jean and Joe lived in South Bend, IN, migrating to the DC/metro areas, eventually settling in the Maryland City neighborhood in Laurel, MD in 1962. In addition to raising five children, Jean worked outside the home at various bookkeeping/secretarial positions. She divided her time between various school functions, intramural sports, the West Arundel swim meets, and she sang in her church choir.
In the 1980s Jean and Joe built and moved into their dream home in Riva, MD where Jean worked for the state in Annapolis. She also volunteered at near-by Historic London Town Gardens. They downsized in 1997, moving to Edgewater, MD when Joe retired from the IRS, becoming snowbirds dividing their time between MD and FL, eventually settling fulltime in Seminole, FL in 2008.
Jean and Joe celebrated their 52nd anniversary of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 5, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth McLaughlin in 1933 and her sister, Evelyn Joyce Hughes in 2018.
Jean enjoyed the outdoors, feeding and watching birds, gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting, and shopping. But most importantly, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially spoiling her granddaughters. She was known for her quick-witted comebacks, played a mean game of Scrabble, and was ruthless at Rummy.
Surviving family includes her five children: Kathy Chalhoub (Ed Weber) of Reisterstown, MD; Brian (Leigh) Chalhoub of Chicago, IL; Tom Chalhoub (Elia Cashen) of Woodbridge, VA; Julie (Michael) Drake of Seminole, FL; and Mary (Jay) Lloyd of Abingdon, MD; her five granddaughters: Chelsea, Lauren, Megan (Michael Burruano), Jenna and Eryn; her beloved and faithful dog, Sassy; one brother, Walter (Mary) McLaughlin of Niles, MI; one brother- and one sister-in-law, Louis and Josephine (Chalhoub) Eby; six nephews: Brad, Jeffrey, Robert and Thomas Hughes, Michael McLaughlin, and Michael Eby.; and three nieces: Donna, Marianne, and Erin.
