He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Cotter and Helen Hunt Cotter; and his son David Craig Cotter. He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Dunn Cotter; his siblings, Jim Wilson (Melba), Paul Cotter, Pam Fuhrman (Allen), Sharon Manary (Ken) and Judy Jones; and his grandchildren, David Cotter Jr. and Kara Montgomery. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Gary be made to Paul and Doris Brock, lifelong missionaries to Germany.
