He was predeceased by: his parents, James Nolan Wheeler and Bernice Lorene Jackson; his siblings, Otis Eugene Wheeler and Vilma Lanell Driver; and his stepfather Elbert Jackson.

He is survived by: his wife Charlotte; his children, Bill Wheeler Jr., Nelson Wheeler, Ben Wheeler (Kelly), Tiffany Locke (Mark), Sean Wheeler (Rachel) and Pamela Wheeler; and his grandchildren, Brittany, Lauren, Gage, Jameson, Parker, Payton, Thomas and Carter.
