He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Short and Ramona Short; and his sister Teresa Lynn Short. He is survived by: his wife Nena Martinez; his children, Maggie Tatum (David) and Sam Short (Clayton Ann); his grandson William Oliver Tatum; his sister Sharon Runyon; and his former wife Amy Short (Joe Littlepage).

His family is requesting donations in lieu of flowers to the Saint Paul's United Methodist Church Gifts & Memorials Fund in his honor (https://saintpaulsumc.breezechms.com). In Alabama, donations may be made to the Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Maplesville, Alabama.
