He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Joe and Lillie Belle Berry; his father Herb; and his daughter Sonia Sherrie Schaefer. He is survived by: his son Herbert Emanuel Schaefer (Ruby Myrtle Miley); his uncles, Cliff and Claude; his cousin Beverly Hall; his friend Hammond Eve; his child Shep Schaefer; his granddaughters, Rachael Farnam and Sherrie Guffey; his great grandchildren, Wynter and Lawrence; and his granddaughter Lillie.

But Joe would also appreciate donations to Big Bend Hospice, which organization helped both him and his mother leave this world in peace and comfort.
