He was predeceased by: his parents, David Lee Tanner and Edith Strong McNeal; and his sister Lillian Dempsey. He is survived by: his siblings, Delores Jackson, Frederick McNeal (Cynthia), Merrill McNeal (Betty) and Joseph McNeal (Lola); his children, Robert Lee Tanner Jr. (Debra) and Pamela Tanner Monroe (Michael); his grandchildren, Brent Monroe (Charise), Robert David Tanner, Michael Troy Monroe, David Monroe, Charla Harris and Vernon Davis Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Gabe and Persephone Monroe. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
