He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Brey; his sons, Bill (Paige) and Paul (Sandra); his grandchildren, Amelia, Max, Katie and Jewell Brey; and his caregiver Wallace.

In 1981, he was honored for his contributions to the field of chemistry with the ACS Florida Award.
