He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Howell and Opal Howell. He is survived by: his wife Claire Howell; his children, Lori Brocato (Tony), Leah Swarts (Steve), Christy Howell and Charlie Howell (Dani); his sister Alice Childress (Jerry); his nephew Brian Childress; his niece Beth Tanner; and his grandchildren, Kelsie Soto (Tim), Clara Swarts (Dan), Matthew Powless, Gillian Powless, Declan Howell and Emersyn Howell.
A committal service was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Victory Ship & Museum - https://www.americanvictory.org (in Jim's name), a cause that was especially meaningful to Jim.
