He was predeceased by: his father Ellis Russ, Sr.; his brother Ellis Russ, Jr.; his grandparents, J. B. Sanders, Nettie Sanders and Ethel B. Malone; and his brother-in-law James Johnson.
He is survived by: his mother Lillie B. Russ (Sanders); his siblings, Alveta Johnson, Cynthia McKay (Lonnie), Wilhelmina "Denise" Russ, Towanda Russ, Wanda Russ, Michael Russ (Sopheia) and Edward "Leon" Russ; and his close friend Patrice Pascoe-Rhodes. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
