Alex Austin Marzek Obituary
Alex Austin Marzek, age 95 of Waterman Village—Mount Dora, Florida went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 26, 2021. He was born on March 11, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the US Army Air Corp during World War II. After serving, he attended the University of Illinois and received his JD degree from the University of Arkansas in 1952. He served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Chicago Title and Trust for 40 years.
Alex was very active in many civic and church organizations. He was a long-time member of the Union League Club in Chicago. He served as a school board member for Berwyn District 100 as well as Vice-President of the Morton High School Music Parents Association. He was a member of Morrison Methodist Church in Leesburg, Florida where he sang in the choir. Alex loved NCAA football and basketball competition, golfing, and bowling where he has a perfect game to his credit.
His greatest pride was in his family: his wife of 70 years, Emily, was a teacher in the Cicero, Illinois public schools; his daughter, Elizabeth (Dean Alan Rowell), is a medical laboratory technician in South Bend, Indiana; and his son, Dr. Peter Marzek (Donna), is a plastic surgeon and immediate past Chief of Staff of AdventHealth Waterman Hospital in Tavares, Florida. He was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Jennie (Sara Florkey); Amy (Brian Newby); John Rowell; Laurel (Danny Boedeker); and Austin Marzek (Heather). He adored his 2 great-grandsons, Jaxon Newby and Henson Boedeker. Of all his many accomplishments, being an amazing husband, father and grandfather was his greatest achievement. He will be sorely missed by all the family!
