She was predeceased by: her parents, John W. Fortner and Lizzie Leazer Fortner; her husband Kenneth Marvin Dean; her son Daniel David Dean; her brother Jerry M. Fortner; her sisters-in-law, Molly Fortner and Virginia Fortner; her grandson Benjamin Richards; and her great grandchild Kaitlin Pennington.
She is survived by: her brother Edward Fortner; and her children, Elizabeth Copeland (Richard), Lois Lane (David), Deborah Jo Richards (Charles), Karol Watkins (Nathan), Kenneth Dean (Dilek) and Jonathan Dean (Wendy). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sunset Funeral Home (11005 US-301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that gifts be given to the Martha Jo Dean Memorial fund at El Bethel Baptist Church.
